Your Local Luthier
Joel began his training in 2012 as an apprentice to Linda Shortridge, building violas da gamba in Dayton Ohio. He attended the Chicago School of Violin Making from 2015-2017 while working and observing in reputable Chicago shops. Shortly after, Joel served as head luthier of Baroque Violin Shop from 2018-2021, offering repairs and bow rehairs to professionals and students of the greater Cincinnati area. He is currently an active cello and fiddle player and is excited to serve other musicians as their luthier through Side Door Strings.
About the Repair Shop
Side Door Strings is a full service repair shop for the violin family, including bows and period instruments. Services range from quick 10 minute tonal adjustments to sound-post patches and scroll grafts.

Musicians and non-musicians alike are welcome to visit the shop and we will work together to meet the needs of your instrument, whether it be of student or professional quality. SDS is currently operating out of a home shop but is accessible through, well... a side door! Easy to find off of State Route 48 near 73 in Springboro.
